If you have a suspicious sore in your mouth be sure to write down the size, location, color and date you noticed it.  Bring your notes with you when you see your dentist.  The dentist will assess if you need a biopsy.  Ask that an oral pathologist assesses your biopsy.  A general pathologist may not be familiar with the common and uncommon oral tissue lesions.  Many times the dentist will refer you to an oral surgeon to get the biopsy.  Be sure to ask the surgeon to send the specimen to an oral pathologist.
